Deanna Martin, 2000 MSN graduate, was hired as Chief Nurse and Operations Officer at West Valley Medical Center in Caldwell, Idaho.

In Charge in San Diego

Former firefighter and fire chief, P. Lamont Ewell, is heating things up in San Diego. The 1988 University of Phoenix BSB/A graduate was recently named city manager for the City of San Diego.

One of his priorities will be to tackle the city’s fiscal challenges. He’s wasted no time—in his first two weeks on the job, he began restructuring City Hall. He told the San Diego Union-Tribune that he’s “streamlining government” to make it more “user-friendly.”

Before arriving in San Diego, Ewell was the city manager of the City of Durham, N.C. He also served as deputy city manager, assistant city manager and acting city manager for the City of Oakland, Calif. Before that he spent 19 years with the City of Compton, Calif. fire department in various capacities.
